Navy SEAL, world record holder, New York Times best seller and one of the most inspiring people on the planet, David Goggins, will join founders of Liam’s Life Foundation Marcus Kowal and Mishel Eder in their efforts to end drunk driving, by running 4 miles in Hermosa Beach as part of his 4 x 4 x 48 challenge (4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours) on Sunday, March 6th, at 12:00 pm.

Liam’s Life Foundation was created after 15-month Liam Kowal was killed by a 72-year old drink driver. Marcus and Mishel created Liam’s foundation to end drunk driving and to increase organ donation, after they donated their son’s organs. With over 10,000 lives lost a year to drunk driving, the couple has focused their efforts to lower the legal BAC to 0.05, which has been done in over 100 countries and the statistics are unanimous. They even had the bill introduced in California (AB1713), known as “Liam’s Law”. The bill, however, was never voted on due to mysterious circumstances.

The legal BAC was lowered to 0.05 in Utah, which showed a decrease of DUI fatalities by 20% and Marcus and Mishel are set to make the legal per se BAC 0.05 in the U.S. Their relentless efforts, in addition to have the 0.05 Bill introduced in California, include speaking to over 16,000 high school students over the past 5 years, being part of a coalition with the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board), MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and NSC (National Safety Council), introducing the 0.05 BAC bill in NY, Hawaii and Washington State.

We might have lost the first round, when our bill was killed by Reggie Jones-Sawyer in the Public Safety committee (Jones-Sawyer didn’t allow the bill to be heard,) but we lost the battle, not the war. We won’t stop until 0.05 is the de facto legal BAC federally, says Marcus.
