Clements Electric Ready to Service Dallas-Fort Worth Area in Preparation for Summer Power Surge

Summer is a notoriously difficult time for the Dallas-Fort Worth power grid. Clements Electric advises that regular checkups to residential electrical lines can save time and money.

[MANSFIELD, 1/26/2018] - Dallas summers, while not hot, are exceptionally hard on power grids. In 2017, the Electricity Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) estimated a peak usage of 73,000 megawatts—the highest in state history. These numbers are based on annual weather observations over the past 14 years.

In 2016, the demand reached its highest 71,110 megawatts. By ERCOT’s count, 1 megawatt should be more than enough to power an average of 200 American homes. However, if the records continue to rise, Dallas-Fort Worth could experience power blackouts come fall and winter.

Although ERCOT is ready to handle the resource generation come peak season, the company fears that an unlikely combination of system conditions might put the Texas power reserves below 2,300 megawatts.

Electrical Maintenance

Lights and air conditioners run at twice the capacity during hot summers. The effects of global warming have caused summers to run not only warmer but also longer. This phenomenon has caused the average power consumption to more than quadruple in the past years.

The regular maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems running through residential and commercial properties are essential to avoid power outages, power surges, and line damage. Neglected cords or breaker boxes can be power vacuums or worse, be causes of fire. Pro-activeness is the key when it comes to prevention.
