At the risk of spoilers, let me just say it didn't go down well for our heroes. The whole thing was over in 20 minutes and left off on kind of a downer. But it was the perfect way to showcase what Grace calls the three main elements of Mafia City: an authentic city with a strong narrative and intense gunplay.
8:30 ... I go to the casino district, as instructed, and gun down a crime boss using a few clicks of my mouse. I can tell there's some match going on in the background that could lead to some interesting tactical variation in gunfights. But for now it's a cinch. The boss is dead and the game suggest I share the good news with friends. I decline.

Moments of shock- the killing of an optimistic and promising protege, or the slaughter of a whistleblower, make one reconsider one's actions, but a few hours later these fade away into another beautiful Empire Bay sunset, shoved into the back of the player's mind and forgotten, in the same way that the protagonist might do so.
The setting throws up some interesting moments in the open-world. I wandered into a bar and was wondering why the owner started hurling racist abuse at me. Turns out it was ‘whites only'. I refused to leave, so he ran off and tried to call the cops. But I managed to choke him out before he did.
"The other things are more locations - and I'm not saying we're going to add more locations, because this feels like a good balance - protects us from changes in any one particular market. So if a big competitor moves right next door to us in one location, we can then balance across the different studios and we are not going to get wiped out by any one business.

I have great memories of the first one, and I await the sequel eagerly! There are too few games that capture that age of America, and it's fun to virtually immerse yourself in there from time to time, even if you're a bastard while you're there, hehe.

If you’ve played a mafia gangster game in the past five years, you know how this usually works: you’ve got a GPS-enabled minimap in the corner of your screen, and it guides you to missions and other waypoints. On the upside, you don’t get lost because you’re so directionally impaired that you sometimes forget how to get out of Target (me). On the downside, you spend all your travel time staring at the corner of the screen, rather than the beautifully realized city in front of you.
