Bangkok, Thailand, October 30, 2013 -- Indorama Ventures PCL (IVL) announced that RECO Young Designer Competition 2013 “Design for Life” is now ready to start. All students and young designers are invited to come together to promote the Power of Creativity in designing and converting polyester into environmentally-friendly products to use in daily life. Meet and talk with last year’s RECO winners who now have products under their own brands.

“As an industry leader, the company is committed to looking for ways to reduce and reuse waste from the industry”, said Mr. Richard Jones, Vice President of Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited (IVL). Realizing the power and creative ideas of the younger generation, IVL initiated an idea to support college students and the new generation of designers to create fashion and product design using recycled PET and polyester. Moreover, IVL would like these Designers for the Environment to have a stage upon which they can present their work and build their career. This is why the RECO YOUNG DESIGNER COMPETITION 2013 “Design for Life” is being held for the third consecutive year. With a clear “3 R’s” concept, this is an opportunity for Thai students from colleges and design institutes to show off their creativity in designing fashion and other products using recycled polyester or PET materials. The judging committee consists of honorable celebrities and professionals in fashion, design and architecture business.

Ms. Aradhana Lohia, representing the young face of Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited said The RECO YOUNG DESIGNER COMPETITION 2013 “Design for Life” is therefore the stage to show off creative ideas that convert waste and unused materials into new pieces of work that no one has ever made before. The concept of the competition is “The 3 R’s”: Reuse - to reuse and make something useful, Reduce - to create a design that can reduce consumption of resources and Recycle - to convert materials into usable products.

This project aims not only to support young designers to unleash the power of their creative ideas, but also to encourage the new generation to strive to become design initiators themselves and to carry this inspiration on to the next generation. Hopefully, this will open the door for work that helps build and develop their career and lead to greater job opportunities in the future. Thus, this is the project that truly adds value to the society.
In this event, there will be a special talk about design trends with highly-regarded guests in the design industry who will also be the judges for the competition: Khun Apiwat Yosprapan, Khun Nhoo Matthews, Ajarn Nattawat (CIDI), Asst. Prof. Dr. Singh Intrachooto, Khun Top Pipat Apirakthanakorn and Khun Siriwan Tempati.

RECO Young Designer Competition 2013 “Design for Life” under “The 3R’s concept” encourages freelance designers and the general public to create and design products that are useful and environmentally friendly (Eco Designs) by using recycled and reused PET and polyester materials. There are two section of the competition: fashion design and product design. The competition is open for contestants to submit work starting 24 October 2013. The 20 selected teams will have to attend a workshop on 19 November 2013 and be ready for the final round and winners announcement on 14 March 2014.

The judging criteria are: creativity, design concept (should be interesting and aligned with the theme which is to convert recycled material into useful products), environmental friendliness and the piece of work itself (beauty, neatness, attractiveness and uniqueness). The first place will win a 100,000 baht cash prize and a trophy. The first runners-up will receive 30,000 baht and a trophy. The second runners-up will get 20,000 baht and a trophy.
