According to Patrick Mulrenan, a senior lecturer at London Metropolitan University, students in London are forced to sleep on floors or live with friends or relatives for their temporary accommodation. Research has found that undergraduates at one of LMU’s ten schools have twenty-seven homeless students.

Many homeless students who were surveyed stated that they know other students who are also homeless at other universities. This highlights that there is a housing problem among students across London. Almost half of the people living in homeless accommodation services in the UK are aged between sixteen to twenty-four years old.

Without support or early intervention, student homelessness can affect education, employment and health, which will most probably lead to homelessness at an older age. Mulrenan added that we need to know how many students are homeless and encourage them to use the support that is available.
