With lawmakers in London recently approving a ban on cigarette smoking in cars with children, it would appear that some more US States appear like making the exact same decision in the near future.

The announced cigarette smoking ban coming into force in England on 1 October, has been by the chief medical officer, Prof Dame Sally Davies, as a considerable triumph for securing youngster's health from secondary smoke. Members of parliament voted in favor of the measure, which won by 342 to 74 votes. Prof Kevin Fenton, the nationwide director for health and well-being at Public Health England, additionally stated... "Lots of moms and dads just aren't conscious of the fact that more than 80 % of second-hand smoke is undetectable and odor-free, so a totally smoke-free home and vehicle is certainly a strong and positive step towards securing youngster's health."

Dr Cent Woods, the president of the British Lung Foundation, was also pleased with the choice, saying... "This is a significant success for the half a million youngsters being exposed to second-hand smoke in the family car each week in England. We advise the government to reveal the same commitment to introduce standardized packaging for all tobacco products, so as to secure the 200,000 youngsters using up cigarette smoking every year in this nation. We are certain that these measures together shall show to be 2 of the most substantial milestones for public health since the smoke-free legislation was introduced back in 2007."

On the domestic front, and recently, a proposition to prohibit smoking in cars with children under the age of 18 was heard in the state of New Hampshire. In Illinois, a similar statute was presented previously this year by Senator Ira Silverstein, and if passed, would prohibit an individual from driving an automobile while a person in the automobile is smoking, should an individual under 18 years of age be present in the vehicle. This week, lawmakers shall be listening to arguments on a bill that would ban cigarette smoking in a vehicle with a child present.

State Senator David Watters, who is the bill's prime backer, has actually said... "The State has actually already shown through seat-belt and other laws their desire to secure kids when present in a motor vehicle. I personally see this bill as an extension of that sort of protection." Under the bill, those found smoking in a vehicle with a minor present would be found guilty of a violation and be handed a fine of $100. Maine also passed a similar law in 2008, prohibiting smoking cigarettes in a vehicle where kids under 16 were also present.

Neil Speight, co-director of Freddie and Sebbie, papa of 4, and devoted defender of enhanced security for children in cars, says that it's definitely a start in the ideal direction. He includes... "I hope all US States will ultimately follow the example given on the other side of the Atlantic, but at least more US states are starting to pay attention to common sense. In such a small refined area, it makes perfect sense to keep it clean in all ways. No smoking cigarettes is a no-brainer, however small accidents can also be triggered by mess and trash being left in that same refined space. I luckily do not smoke, and I have actually been able to train my 2 infant twins to toss any trash directly into the automobile trash can, making our vehicle protected from any unanticipated health hazard."
