The limousinenservice or limo is a saloon car or a luxury sedan. It has normally a chauffeur and it has a partition between the passenger and driver compartments. Normally, limousines do have a long wheelbase. Before, it was an enclosed automobile and it has an open driver seat. It was named because of the hood and clock that people from Limousin region were wearing.
In the current world, the limousinen service is the service offered by a saloon car or a luxury sedan but especially the one on the lengthened wheelbase which should be driven by a chauffeur. The chassis of the limousine can be extended by the use of the manufacturer or a coachbuilder. These are known as stretchlimousine and they are normally white or black. Since limousine is one of the most expensive form of the transportation, it is normally associated with power and wealth. For the people who are not that rich, the limousine is only hired for special occasion like bachelor, proms and weddings.
Even if the limousines have been owned by some individuals, most of them are owned by the government and they use them to transport politicians or large company executives. However, the stretchlimousinen may be used like livery vehicles and they provide the up market competition for the taxicabs. The builders for the stretch limousine may buy the stock cars and they may modify them afterwards.
The limousinenservice is not only meant to be used for luxury, but sometime they offer the security features like bulletproofed glass and armoring. The first limousine was built in the 1902 and it was designed in the way that the driver sits into a covered compartment. The limousinen service is based on the partition which separates the driver away from the real passengers. The partition normally contains a sliding and a sound proof window made in glass which means that the passengers may talk without the chauffeur listening to their conversation. The communication to the driver can be done by opening the window or by using an intercom.
The first stretchlimousine was made by the Fort Smith in Arkansas in 1928 under the coach company Armbruster. The cars were meant to transport the famous leaders of big band such as Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller. Such limousines were given the name of big band buses.
In the past, the limousine was made on elongated wheelbase and it allowed the rear passenger compartment to have forward facing passenger and enough foot room. The jump seats were mounted at behind the driver and such seats are folded if they are not in use. This means that at least 5 people may be carried in the compartment. With more two people who can be carried in the driver’s compartment, the car was able to carry 7 people. The modern stretchlimousinen may be used to carry at least three passengers without the driver. The coach builders were building the models using the SUV which were separated from the load bearing chassis. Some of such limos do not meet the weight requirements of the cars of their class.
