Vagabond Temple is one of the drivers behind Cambodia’s emergence as a yoga destination in Asia. The spiritual center takes yoga enthusiasts to the coastal city of Sihanoukville.

[CAMBODIA, 15 /12/2017] Some parts of Asia, including India and Thailand, have long been yoga destinations for enthusiasts from all over the world. Within the last few years, the flourishing market has opened new opportunities for Cambodia to emerge as another tourist spot for yoga enthusiasts. One of drivers behind this growth is Vagabond Temple, a center for spiritual healing that offers yoga and meditation retreats in the coastal town of Sihanoukville.

An Economic Opportunity
The movement to promote Cambodia as a yoga destination started in 2015. The Khmer Times wrote that the arrival of yoga retreats in Cambodia presents an opportunity to teach the people about deeper awareness, as well as enrich the tourism of the country.
As one of Cambodia’s most visited locales, Siem Reap forefronts the movement. However, Sihanoukville, the provincial capital of Sihanoukville Province and Cambodia’s premier beach town, emerges as another yoga destination in the country. The influx of travelers is driven by the spiritual lure of Vagabond Temple, which focuses on creating a “rejuvenating and transformative experience”.

The Yoga Experience in Vagabond Temple
Vagabond Temple promotes yoga as a way to raise consciousness and instill inner harmony, unlike the Western idea of the practice as a means to stay fit. Founders Kobi and Pazit acquired their training from India and other parts of Asia, and incorporate various yoga and meditation styles and teachings from different western and eastern disciplines.
The retreats can be as short as five days or extend up to two months. The programs include a full daily schedule of yoga and meditation classes, vegan meals, accommodation, full use of house facilities, and the support of a spiritual community.

In these retreats, participants are encouraged to use yoga to explore the different parts of their consciousness, as well as becoming more compassionate and self-aware individuals.

Vagabond Temple, along with the local communities, promotes wellness — not just in the people it teaches, but also the market to which it belongs.
