Being a millennial, a business professional and an engineer, I have been through the same stages of life that almost all millennials of this country experience. The stereotype of achieving success through becoming an engineer from IIT or NIT and then completing MBA from an Ivy league school is something that has remained constant, even in the 21st-century era. But it is not always any individual to blame. A lack of career guidance and opportunities in other industries, coupled with an intense competition among a huge crowd of like-minded students to achieve success have compelled them to stop taking the risk of pursuing the field where their passion and strength lie and take the route that million others are walking on. There are also certain reasons which are external, like weak economic background, absence of exposure and awareness to new and emerging opportunities, etc.

To give an example of my journey, I am simply the product of the same old engineering plus MBA package, and right now, I am stuck in a place where work has become just a source of income and there is no way out. Having completed both my bachelors and masters from good colleges, I would say, career guidance is still at a very nascent stage and my batchmates and I have simply taken the route that our seniors and alumni have taken. I agree with the fact that there is a lot of uncertainty in the job market and that degrees of good colleges may not always guarantee a lavish job. But the stream you chose heavily determines where your career path goes, and counselling that is still a major gap everywhere in this country. Too bad there was no startup then that would help people like me with this.

But that time has passed and now, you can have that support and guidance from the veterans of the industry.
