A heater is an essential component of a business establishment. And, it is a must that you keep it in working condition all the time. This is great not only for your staff, but also for your customers. Fortunately, this is not a tough job. All you need to do is to take care of certain things.
Here are some measures you can take to ensure a long and risk-free existence for your heating unit.
1. Take good care of air filters
Almost all good-quality heaters would have air filter mechanisms. For them to work effectively, you should replace them at regular intervals. Let the manufacturer recommendations guide you in this regard. And, this is not going to cost you much. A few dollars would do the job. You should also make sure that they are cleaned as often as possible.
2. Insulate your home
This is the most cost-effective way to reduce your utility bill. Inspect your home for holes from where heat goes out and close them. If yours is an old building, give special attention to the attic, doors and windows. You can use weather stripping for the purpose. Most of the time, a few pennies would take care of the situation.
3. Close unused rooms
Understand that the larger your home is, the harder your heating unit will have to work. Close the vents, doors and windows of unused rooms of your establishment. This will assist you in your efforts to lower your utility bill.
4. Dress up as the season dictates
Dressing up in accordance with the climate too will prolong the life of your heating unit. This will reduce the work load of your heater. You don’t have to set the temperature as high as you do when wearing general clothing.
5. Wrap it up
The advice applies to water heaters. Wrap its tank in an insulation covering. This will reduce the loss of heat. Quite naturally, the heater will last long. It doesn’t have to work hard. This will also reduce your utility expenses.
6. Install a humidifier
This is something people often ignore. The level of humidity in the atmosphere will affect the effectiveness of the heating unit. If the air is too dry, it won’t be able to maintain the heat for long forcing the appliance to work hard. Install a humidifying unit and lower the temperature. This will not only reduce the work load of your heater, but also will lower your bill.
7. Service it regularly
You may be doing everything you can to keep your heating unit in good condition. But, there are certain damages only a professional can repair. Service the appliance at least once in six months.
These observations don’t have to confuse you. Just outline a maintenance routine and you are good to go. Staying updated with the rules and regulations from the fire department too will help a lot.
Take good care of your commercial heater. Happy staff and delighted customers are investments which worth all your efforts.
