My best friend is the head handbag buyer at the world’s top luxury department store. We have been friends since our first day of pre-school. I distinctly remember the little white cardigan she wore on that day. It was white and little butterflies and hummingbirds were embroidered on the sleeves. We have been by each other’s side ever since. And I can honestly say she has always had an amazing sense of fashion. Even when she was very little, her mother always let her choose her outfits because she had taste like a grown up. As teenagers, she had the best wardrobe in the class. Not all of her outfits were expensive, but they were all unique and timeless.

We both attended the same boarding school in Switzerland during high school. That was such a magical time in our lives. If we weren’t in the classroom, then we were on the slopes skiing. Switzerland is such a beautiful country and we had an amazing time. Swiss boarding school provides the platform for meeting some of the most influential people throughout the world. Our classmates had several princes and princesses. We had a very small and tight graduating class. We all got along well and continue to see each other on a regular basis. I had more fun at boarding school than I did at university. There is something to be said about small classes where you get to know each other very well and everyone is inclusive.

After university, my best friend attended a program for buyers at department store. This isn’t any sort of normal buying program, but it’s one for only the most exclusive stores with the highest buyers in the world. She excelled at that very fast and went on to work for the top luxury department store. She has been with them for ten years now; working her way up to head handbag buyer. This month we will meet in Paris. I will accompany her to many of the couture shows and also buying appointments with luxury accessories brands. I love getting an inside scoop into the fashion world. I’ve also learned a lot from her about developing your own style. She says it’s important not to copy anyone, but to let your own preferences shine though. In this day and age of bad dressing and showing too much skin, it’s refreshing to see fashionables with good style without compromising themselves. I think we can all agree that style is better when you cover up and don’t try so hard to show off your body.

Packing for Paris is fun. It’s warm in the summer, but I recently purchased several cotton dresses that are perfect for beating the heat. I’m not a big hat person and I think many people look silly in them, but I am taking one nonetheless. One needs to protect the skin when sitting in the park. I’m also packing several new designer handbags. These luxurious bags will be a hit in Paris and I will fit right in. In fact, I look forward to purchasing more bags and I’m bringing an empty suitcase just for that.
